Empty out that three year old jar of rhubarb jelly in the back of the fridge and wash it.
Make sure the lid does not leak, test by adding a carbonated beverage, screw on lid, shake until the lid "pops", turn upside down and shake some more. If ANY liquid leaks out it is NOT suitable for mixing methoxide.
